At 3 12 p m Saturday June 2nd the German government signed the treaty drafted by the Allies. The ceremony occurred in the Hall of Mirrors at Versailles near the spot where William I was crowned emperor, marking a historic end to hostilities and a new German peace.
President Wilson addressed the nation urging acceptance of the peace treaty and League covenant without changes. He described the pact as a charter for a new world order that ends conquest, promotes international law, and guarantees nationality rights, minority protections, and religious liberty through a permanent world league.
Citizens of Clarinda Iowa raise funds on Memorial Day to support French war orphans through The Fatherless Children of France. Twenty one orphans will be cared for with ten cents a day or three dollars monthly, with $36.50 a year pledged per child, supplementing French government support. Mrs Walter S Brewster of Chicago heads the ten cent daily adoption drive from Room 635, 4108 Michigan Ave.
The Vidette announces a subscription increase for out of county mailings. Beginning July, the yearly rate will be $1.50 due to postal rate changes and mailing costs.
