Negro Beating Weevil Claim By Montgom ery Planter
John McDuffie, a black planter near Montgomery, says his home made remedy keeps the cotton weevil out of 250 acres. He boils crude oil tar and camphor, soaks wet sacks, and drags them through fields weekly to deliver fumes to both sides of the cotton. The process costs about 15 cents per acre and, he asserts, yielded five extra bales per horse in 1916.
