Renewing Worn Out Cotton Lands By Crop Rotation Pioneer
Mrs G H Mathis of Birmingham Alabama rebuilt soil fertility on worn southern farms through cover crops and rotation. She bought 1060 acres in Eastern Alabama for eight dollars an acre and scaled from a bale per acre to forty dollars an acre in value. A tenant on 30 acres yielded 18 bales of cotton 500 bushels of corn hay and provisions for a year receiving 1100 dollars in cash plus farm outputs and payments to Mrs Mathis. Another tenant on 46 acres produced 30 bales of cotton and substantial harvests.
