County Division Meeting at Baker Planned for March 17
Eastern Custer County residents, east of Powder River, will meet in Baker on Friday March 17 to decide on forming a new county. The area lies between Dawson County and the Wyoming line, with the Dakotas to the east, and includes about 175 townships with an assessed value around five and a half to six million dollars. The largely agricultural territory is attracting farmers from the Dakotas, Nebraska, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa and beyond, who seek better roads and county services with lower or no higher taxes. The Baker Sentinel urges wide representation and notes arrangements can handle a thousand visitors onsite.
