Sun Sets on West Coast Solar Decathlon Event
About 19 university teams competed to build solar powered homes at the Great Park. Officials faced Santa Ana winds rain and a government shutdown threatening success. Attendance estimates ranged from 300000 down to 100000 with eight days of free public access. Each team was eligible for 100000 in DOE funds and the park would be reimbursed 1 million for hosting the first year of the biennial event.
