UC Irvine graduates heard co founder Henry Samuels recounts a lean start in Los Angeles. His parents could not fund college, UCLA was his only option, and he spent nine years in undergrad to doctoral study before a stint at IBM and a UCLA instructor role on the way to leading a record $37 billion sale.

The Irvine Spectrum Center unveils a remodeled Giant Wheel featuring 52000 energy efficient LED bulbs and 16 million possible color schemes. Guests may ride free today through Sunday. Built in Italy, it arrived in Los Angeles July 20 2002, opening at Irvine Spectrum after an eight week install in October 2002.
