Restoration project yields flowers not seen in 50 years
An Irvine restoration effort near West Loma Ridge revived dormant Great Valley phacelia seeds after invasive weeds were cleared. OCTA approved nearly 1.3 million for the Irvine Ranch Conservancy to expand the project across the 241 toll road as part of Measure M2 environmental mitigation. The work, guided by Conservancy staff and volunteers, tests planting and weed removal methods using locally sourced seeds and the Native Seed Farm. Public programs invite participation at West Loma and the Native Seed Farm with details at irlandmarks.org/activities.
