Citizens of Alton urge Northwestern Railroad to construct a new depot replacing the old structure used by about a thousand travelers daily. The widely signed petition seeks action and a modern building for the station.
Hull reports the annual mid winter farmers institute will be held about mid January. The organizing committee promises one of the best meetings ever with A G McMillan of Lakewood Stock Farm and Shute Dairy Commissioner Wright as speakers.
Mrs William Briggle was instantly killed when struck by a Euro freight train near Beresford while crossing the track in a buggy. She had been Christmas shopping and was returning to the farm with five of her children at home and two from a prior marriage. The engineer testified the horse bolted into the path, the emergency brake failed, and the neck was broken in the post mortem. The Briggle family, once from nearby Ireton, was respected in the community.
Miss Bessie McClenahan resigns as assistant principal, effective Dec 21, after years of recognized efficiency in Treton schools. Rumors cite disruptive high school boys and possible expulsion debates as factors prompting the board to consider actions affecting the graduating class.

At the regular meeting last Saturday, officers were elected for the G A R and the W R C of Irobaton. The joint public installation is set for the second Saturday in January. The Roosevelts Panama trip mentioned Mr Claude Paul, son of Mrs L M Black, aboard the Louisiana with remarks from the President and a stop in Havana planned.
J D Browning, general manager of the Sioux City and Ireton Interurban, visited Rock Valley to gauge stockholder interest and secure a franchise. The council pledged no opposition to ROW through SRV property and operations will begin on the Rock Valley to Treton line, then Rock Valley to Dean. A separate case against Rock Valley granted a permanent injunction against a ditch on W J McLean’s farm, with costs split between parties.
The XIRSE PRESBYTERIAN invites all to worship with sermons on Waiting Upon the Lord and Walking With the Lord. The Methodist church will host Rev. Robert Smylie with the Lord's Supper and a quarterly conference. United Presbyterian offers morning and evening services on The Credibility of the Resurrection Christ.
