Roaming townsfolk report Alice Ross visiting Chicago, Willie Day returning from Nebraska, Charley Brown and wife visiting Tankton residents. A severe storm damaged grain and crops, with Cherrokes flood effects, and Linn County events include a Sioux City Normal Institute start, a ball game in Tama Mara, and Castle Rock speakers praised for Independence Day oration by Ross from Minneapolis.
The report covers the last month of the summer term. Enrollment shows pupils and the total days present. The attendance notes mention Carrie Thompson and Madison Mar g30 with perfect attendance and Hell Morgen tardy once with Cora Morcan as teacher.

Treton Lodge, T O O F held a public installation last Thursday for the term. Deputy Grand Master W H Palmer of Hawarden conducted the exercises. Officers installed included G W Posty, Lewis E Day, Rev R Wheeler, GN Phillips, E H Dreveskracht, Geo Rogers, W Schuaman, Bob Thindsay, John Garter, Warden Wm Leiber, LE Morgan, W R Wheeler, E R Terpepaing, Alf Morzan. Afterward members and guests went to City Hall for ice cream and refreshments. The lodge reports 4 members and new applications being received.
Jacob Van Veldhuiza, a well respected farmer living northeast of town, was killed by a lightning strike that struck the chimney and entered his sleeping room shortly after 10. His brother in law and family members witnessed the deaths and describe the air as hard to breathe, with the funeral planned Friday at his residence and at the First Reformed Church.

Maurice Minutes and Jos Spires of Treton attended a service in Treton Sunday evening. A group of treton cyclists rode past last Sunday. A Saturday hall supper hosted by the M. Be Church featured ice cream, blackberries and cream and was well received. Local residents planned a Monday visit to view a ball game between Maurice Ball Club and the Wooden Shoes of Orange City, which Maurice won 11 to 9. Several Treton residents and visitors were noted, including Dr. Mosher and Mrs. McCollland. Albert Bewin praised Chamberlain’s remedies for cramps and stomach issues, with Hofman & Co. Drugists selling the product.
In a 1891 notice the publisher touts unusually low prices to expand circulation. Single copies sell for 25 cents with club rates to November 16 1891 and sample copies offered free. Printing firm Presing Bros Co Sioux City is listed along with a separate pitch for Shiloh’s Cure claiming quick relief at 10 cents 59 cents or one dollar.
DrevesKracht Dealer markets farm implements and the Empire Buckeye Binder as top Northbwest machines. Racine 1 handle buggy wagons and carriages touted as major items. Emphasizes first class goods, invites customers to inspect before buying. Store located a door north of the Clipper Office.
J I Hare of Trenton Texas reports his two month old son suffered from severe diarrhea until Chamberlain's Colic Cholera and Diarrhea Remedy gave immediate relief and was named the best medicine for diarrhea or colic. Sold by Hoffman and Go Druggists. De Witt's Early Risers touted for constipation and biliousness.
A civic admonition urges residents to avoid bad habits such as buying away from home speaking harshly to friends and neglecting home enterprises. It promotes loyalty to local business and asks readers to travel only on the Sioux City and Northern Railroad and to contact Jas V Mahoney in Sioux City for fall information.
