The Washington Democrat launches a seven week Salesmanship Club campaign offering $5000 in prizes and 20 percent commissions to sell subscriptions. Grand Buick sedan Ford Touring car and home furnishings are among the prizes. entrants must act quickly as the first movers gain the best opportunities.
The Y s Men Club hosted a social evening with Miss Sara Grimes at the piano and twenty five members with their ladies. A four course repast, artistic Halloween place cards, and a Forte of activities including a radio stunt and fortune telling favors entertained attendees. The event ended with a humorous milk judging sketch featuring Betsy and Beauty and judges Brookhart and Magnus Johnson.
A new Star Sales Service company opened on Gasoline Alley in the past week with Ss. W. Gingerich in charge of sales for Durant and Star cars. The venture is seen as a fine improvement to Gasoline Alley as West Second is known among motorists. An announcement and advertisement from Gingerich on Star Cars appear elsewhere in the issue.
About fifty bank leaders from the district attend a bankers gathering in Des Moines at the YMCA building. Emil Webbles, president of the State Bankers Association, speaks on Still Better Banking in Iowa. George Co Swiler chairs the meeting with Ralph Bunce and Carl Keck among the familiar attendees.
This evening a meeting of the city Sunday School superintendent and teachers is held in the YMCA Community Room. Dr Stewart will address the gathering on teachers training and religious education with a view to forming a city wide class among the workers.

Alfreida Swansen who has been visiting for several days with Anna Scott departed Monday for Chicago. Marriage licenses were issued last week to Clarence W. Evarts of Cedar Rapids 22 and Annie Gallagher 19, and to Fred M. Edwards of Williamsburg 33 and Dorothy Amlong 21 of Washington.
Harry Ramseyer of Pulaski Iowa plans a hatchery on North Iowa avenue ready within weeks for a 47 000 egg machine. The project serves local farmers by enabling more chicks with less trouble and includes hatching for farmers using their own eggs. Ramseyer will oversee operations and expects a strong county flock outlook for the new year.
Washington County receives five thousand five hundred pairs of automobile plates for December 1 registration. About 4200 pairs were stored in the vault last week. penalties apply from January 1. Changes in county rankings noted with Polk leading and Scott high.
