Council weighs buying the Commercial Club for city use
Monday’s City Council vote favored purchasing the Commercial Club building to serve as city hall and a fire station once a price is agreed. The plan would centralize offices and allow space for the fire department and local organizations with limited remodeling. Additionally two arterial highways were laid out and new regulations enacted on parades and lead pipe use.

Farm Purchases Record in Franklin Township and Wayland
Lee W. Gordon of Franklin Township bought the Mrs. Cora Snider farm three and a half miles southwest of West Chester for 32400 dollars. The 160 acre tract expands Gordon’s holdings to 295 acres. The deal was facilitated by Dempsey and Breitenbach and Dayton Agencies. The Schofield place on the Washington Wayland road six miles southeast of town sold to John R. Wenger of Wayland for 28500 dollars. The 300 acre Schofield property was sold by Charles E. Patterson of Seattle for the Schofield heirs through Dempsey Breitenbach agency.

Miss Ella Reitan of the County Hospital attended the state convention of registered nurses in Davenport. She reported large attendance of superintendents from across the state and a very enthusiastic meeting. She returned home late last evening.

Porty Nine Pound Squash Display At Office
A 49 pound squash grown on Charles Schulty farm near Pilotsburg is on display at the Democrat office. TheCounty boasts large crops this year including corn oats and apples. The squash is three feet long and relation to a heavier specimen weighing 59 pounds previously taken to the Wellman Advance office. Owen Cnossen and his son Geart visited Keota where Geart works as an assistant in the bakery Owen recently helped purchase.

Institute Brings Teachers to City for Two Day Session
The two day institute at the High School drew about 260 teachers from rural and city schools. Dr. A. E. Bennett of Des Moines University entertained and educated with humor while addressing why teachers fail. E Avis demonstrated drawing series, Hollister spoke on language and story telling, and H A Greene discussed modern testing methods. The event closed with a girl’s glee club performance and a flower garden demonstration from Centennial School.

Y's Men to Host Hallowe'en Party for Members and Guests

Burglars Enter Brighton Lumber Office
Mr. Cook found the lumber office robbed during the night with about $20 in change missing from the money drawer not in the vault. Entry was through the south door by force after Mr. Cook finished work Thursday evening. Assistant Mr. White also reported a small loss of city funds.
