During a severe afternoon storm a bolt hit the chimney of Mr. and Mrs. J. L. P. Faris on South Marion Avenue. The chimney was destroyed and chimney stops blown out while soot and mortar spread through the house. No fire occurred and the structure remained intact though curtains and rugs were damaged by debris. Neighbors nearby witnessed the strike and felt the shock from several houses away.

Wellman Man Fractures Leg In Tank Explosion
Perry L. Livezey of Wellman suffered a severe leg fracture when a gasoline tank exploded at the Iowa Motors and Supply Co. Solder overheat ignited remaining gas as the tank, in repair four days, blew apart striking his leg. He endured X ray at Iowa City and was to be sent home Sunday. The blast narrowly spared his life.

Grant Darbyshire Dies in Ontario Canada
Grant Darbyshire brother of Will Darbyshire and Mrs Edna Babcock of this city died at Lethbridge Ontario on Sunday May 23 and was buried from Woodford Chapel Tuesday. His death was sudden and full details are not yet known. He had lived in Lethbridge where he conducted business and was en route to California. Born and raised in Washington County he left sixteen years ago and also leaves a brother Chas in Ottumwa.
