Drainage Districts Eight and Nine Planned for Washington City

Charles H. Young of the Central States Engineering Co leads surveys with the City Council and Board of Supervisors for a proposed surface drainage district covering Washington City and parts of Washington Township. The plan aims to drain the north and east areas, reduce street water damage, and fund costs via benefited property owners after a measured plat and assessment. If approved, the project would also enable graveled road improvements east of North Iowa Avenue.

Izaak Walton League Holds First Washington Banquet

The Izaak Walton League held its first Washington banquet with 150 members and guests. Dr. B Shimek of the State University of Iowa spoke on conservation, while Judge C A Dewey and others gave brief talks. A rabbit supper was served and Shields orchestra provided music for the event.

Christmas and the Church Sermon Series at Local Church

The Church of Christ hosts services with Bible School at 9 45 and communion each Sunday. The morning sermon is Power in the Church. At 6 00 P M Christian Endeavor meets for young people and at 7 00 P M the third Christmas sermon, Christmas and the Church, will be given. Everyone is welcome. Frank W Sutton, pastor.

Mover's Convention At High School Draws Delegates

The Mover's Convention at the High School Auditorium was a success with delegates chosen by pupils who used Palmer Method writing. Lincoln, Heights, Wallace, and Centennial sent many delegates, listed by room and pupil names, representing each ward school.

Crail Store Sells West Side Property to Ward & Co

Washington records the sale of the J. B. Crail Dry Goods and Ready to Wear Store to H. I. Ward and Company in a major local business transaction. Ward already operates the former Blair store and will run three Washington outlets, with Crail planning retirement after fifty seven years in the dry goods trade.

Norton Named County Home Steward in Washington County

The Washington County Board of Supervisors elected William J. Norton of Williamsburg as county home steward with Mrs. Norton named matron. Norton, 44, brings eight years of experience as Poweshiek County Home steward in Montezuma. The couple will earn 1850 annually, a reduction from 2400, with a detailed contract to improve supervision starting January 1, 1926.

Christmas Program at Centennial School Presented Friday

The Centennial School will stage a Christmas play titled A Rag Dolls Christmas Eve on Friday at 1 30 in the kindergarten room. Every pupil will participate as a doll or toy, with costumes crafted by teachers and mothers. The scene unfolds in a nursery where old dolls plot rebellion as Christmas brings new ones, ending in reconciliation with a Christmas tree and Santa.

Mrs Earl Wood Dies at Blanchard Iowa

Mrs Earl Wood formerly Ellen Andrew of Blanchard dies after months of illness at her parents home in Blanchard Iowa. She was married to Earl Wood on November 11 1922 and is survived by her husband and her parents. Funeral plans place burial in Ainsworth. Mr Wood is a building contractor.

Iowa Approves Multi Year Road Improvement Campaign

Governor Hammill approved a three year program to build eight east west and five north south roads across Iowa at a cost over 27 million dollars. The plan prioritizes graveling and bridging with grading and drainage to provide passable roads while awaiting further funds and a higher gas tax approval.

Christmas Adoration Program at Local Church and Cantata

Christmas Eve White Gifts for the King program features The Adoration Pageant. Presbyterian Church hosts carols, Christmas tree, and Gifts for Latin America in the 32 stations. Sunday sermons reflect the season with White Christmas offerings for hospitals and a children cantata The Night Before Christmas led by Mrs. McCrory. Program includes numerous soloists, choirs, and an Epworth League caroling event.

Convention Set in Des Moines Mid January

Dewey Sells Hundred Ducks to Davenport Co

A. C. Dewey received an order for 100 mallard ducks to be sent to Davenport. The seller has built a successful Highland Fork Wild Fowl and Poultry Preserve and was able to supply the large order promptly. Dewey has about 100 mallards left.
