Old Soldier Hunter Dies at Home After Illness
Civil War veteran and Washington resident Mr. Hunter died Friday at 3:30 p.m. at 404 East Washington Street after a year of declining health. Born September 5, 1845 in Knox County Ohio, he enlisted at sixteen and served in Company E Fifteenth Iowa. He married twice and left a widow, surviving children Mary Hunter, Mrs. Samuel Baird, Mrs. Homer Stephen, T. W. Hunter, and two sisters. He attended the Methodist Church and remained active as health allowed.
