Storms sweep county damaging homes crops and livestock
A sweeping storm across the county caused property damage in Brighton including a roof loss at Lemley’s grocery and shattered windows at the Savings Bank and Edmondson Restaurant. Winds knocked down trees, damaged lines, and flooded stores with ankle deep water. Across the river, Duke and Wolf farms reported ruined crops and many killed or injured poultry. Obituary of Mary Scheidemantel Lins
Mary Scheidemantel Lins died at eighty seven after a life spanning Germany and the United States. Born May 19 1838 in New Gronan Germany she immigrated at ten, married Conrad Lins in Butler County Pennsylvania March 11 1858 and lived in Washington County Iowa. Funeral services were held at the home with a Woodlawn Cemetery interment conducted by Rev W W Bowers and Rev J D Kern. Surviving children include five daughters and three sons, numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Miss Washington Bus Crash Near Kalona
The motor bus named Miss Washington suffered slight damage in a collision four miles north of Kalona on Saturday evening. The Haynes auto was wrecked, several passengers in it were badly bruised, while bus riders were only shaken. The bus will be repaired and resume service soon.
