Drenda Van Wyhe's chosen essay argues that social apathy harms society and urges involvement to help others. It condemns the "don’t get involved" mindset and stresses personal responsibility and conscience in difficult situations.
Baccalaureate was held Sunday May 21 to open graduation exercises at LCHS. Seniors entered in caps and gowns to music by Colette Pierson. sixteen ushers guided parents to seats. Commencement is scheduled for Friday May 27 with Dr. William Monahen as speaker and the Girls Glee Club performing You’ll Never Walk Alone.
LCHS offers a three week summer ecology program led by Mr Roger Klopp from June 13 to July 1. Enrollment is limited to eighteen with applications due May 27. Activities include field trips to Plymouth county watershed Gavins Point Dam White sand dunes Oak Grove State Park and local lakes and streams. A six dollar lab fee covers transportation and materials. Students must provide insurance. regular school coverage can be extended at no cost.
A whimsical letter to the editor from a self described chicken fashion designer praises a May Canine Comments piece about the author. She details go go boots granny glasses and chicken size piano lessons while claiming opera ambitions and a zest for cultural events. The note also salutes graduates Nancy Powell and Jim Powell with GPA figures and Senior Awards Day details at LCHS.
Jones VICA led a state convention in Ames Iowa forming a new constitution and electing officers. Bob Jones named state secretary. B T Beech elected Spians President for 1966 67. various awards and scholarships were distributed to students and clubs. The event closed with a speech by Mirko Popovich and remarks by Mr Reed.
LCHS mentor Mrs. Johnson recognizes senior students for typing and transcription mastery. Awards cover three typing levels with standout performers including Donna Crawford Patsy Hickey Pat Sordrager and Drenda Van Wyhe. Several reach 50 wpm or more, Betty Beitelspacher exceeds 70 wpm, and five girls earn shorthand honors at 100 wpm.
Nancy Powell reports on Phil Masters and family sharing four years in New Guinea with the Interdenominational Mission Service. In a LCHS assembly students view slides of native life, tools, dress, and mission work while Masters explains local law and customs and notes plans to return soon to continue spiritual and social support.
