State auditor reports county interest gains in 1971
State auditor Lloyd R. Smith announced that counties earned 2.9 million dollars in interest on idle funds in 1971. Over 1966 to 1971, counties accrued 12.6 million, while all local subdivisions except townships totaled 73.7 million, with about 27 million from idle funds and cities receiving roughly 37 million. He praised county treasurers and boards for cooperation and investment reporting and said some counties will be asked to review investment programs.

Dale Bonderson Places Second In State Speech Contest
Dale Bonderson of 717 W Valley Drive placed second in the state Toastmasters speech contest held May 12 in Des Moines. Iowa bill tightens veterans property tax credit rules
The House ways and means committee approved a bill redefining active duty for veterans tax credits of 750 for World War I and 500 thereafter. It requires 120 days of consecutive wartime service and bars training-only active duty for guardsmen and reservists.
