Mrs Grace Grosjean of Muscatine recently displayed 50 needlepoint pieces at the West Liberty Public Library. A petit point design featured a magnolia and a calla lily on silk screen mesh 50 mesh to the inch with 1 600 stitches per square inch totaling 59 000 stitches.
Former Senator Jack Miller of Sioux City may be named to the United States court of customs and patent appeals in Washington. President Nixon is said to be considering Miller for a life position paying 42 500 a year as FBI checks Iowa qualifications amid a career marked by a 1966 statewide victory and a 1970 defeat by Dick Clark.
A Veterans Administration representative, Donald Kniffen, will be in room 402 at the U.S. Post Office in Sioux City on Tuesday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. He will assist veterans, dependents, and beneficiaries. For information, residents can call the VA regional office in Des Moines at 252-3291, available 7:45 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, dialable like a local Sioux City number.
Le Mars fire department was dispatched Friday evening to a grass fire just north of Seney. Fire siren sounded at 8 32 p.m. Units reported the blaze contained with no injuries.
Calendar notes a Goodwill truck visit in Le Mars on May 15 with a callout to clean closets and call 546-5457 or 546-4944 before Tuesday morning if the truck is to stop. May 16 and May 17 list League of Women Voters unit meetings with hosts and co-hostesses at Helen Kelly and Dixie Koeiker locations, including addresses.
