Final G H S Concert This Sunday May 15
Gehlen High School choral department presents its final concert of the year at 8 p.m. in the auditorium. Freshmen chorus opens with four songs, girls quartets directed by Mrs Harold Ruden add harmony, and advanced chorus closes with varied numbers. Senior chorus members receive recognition awards, soloists from the state vocal contest perform, inviting students, parents and the public to attend.

Jays win at Sioux Center dual meet 172 to 189
The Gehilen Linksters captured a dual victory at Sioux Center by a 172 to 189 score. Senior Dennis Sullivan earned medalist honors with a 41, while Jim Phipps posted 43 and Steve Byrnes and Rick Grallap each shot 44. A previous meet at the same course occurred yesterday but results were not ready for publication.

All girl color guard formed with Eta Gra lapp leading
Eta Gra lapp will lead a new all girl color guard for the next year with Judy Wolcott and Debby Ruhland in gun duties. Other members include Peggy Weiler Sharon Langel Margaret Dull Terri Hames Debby Litzmann Joyce Deegan Ann Ahlers Barbara Wanderschied Nan Meis Ann Ruhland and Marilyn Ruden marching behind. The group will precede the majorette and band performing in parades pre game and halftime shows. Gehlen reports more scholarships awarded to three graduates Janice Carel earns a renewable 100 dollar yearly Saint Mary's College Omaha plus a 50 dollar EOT scholarship. Dan Paetz gains a 300 dollar renewable scholarship from test scores and grades. Rick Mueller receives a 100 dollar Lion's Club scholarship for Westmar.

Fred Sitzmann son of Mrs Ray Sitzmann has attended Gehlen since the fourth grade. He is active in high school extra curriculars including operetta football basketball track and student activities. He belongs to St Joseph's parish Neptune and enjoys pool at Dob's parlor. His likes include playing piano Fr White and the Castarays while dislikes cover social problems English and Thoma. The class of 1966 wishes him the best in whatever he does.

Iowa Boys State delegates chosen for 1959 at Camp Dodge Des Moines
Three junior class members Steve Luedtke Jim Orban and Tom Vornbrock have been selected as delegates to this year’s Iowa Boy’s State. The event runs June 5 to 11 with a simulated state government. Sponsorship comes from Walmer Post Le Mars for Jim and Steve and from the Merrill Legion post for Tom.

Margie Wanderscheid daughter of Harold Wanderscheid Le Mars, featured center ring and senior one act star. She helped in plays, drill team, and has a lively, rounded personality with varied likes and dislikes.

New Officers Elected by Band Parents
Last Monday night the band parents elected new officers for the coming year. President Bill Reuter will name the vice president, Carl Tenting er is treasurer, and Helen Flaherty is secretary. The association discussed finances from football games, the band carnival, and the stereo project funding trips to Orange City for a parade and Riverside parade in Sioux City next year. Two instruments were donated and will be repaired by the group. Refreshments followed adjournment and the parents praised for their energetic work.

Funeral services set for Bertha J. McDougall at St John church
Bertha J. McDougall 65 of 314 First Avenue NW will be buried at Le Mars Memorial after funeral services Saturday at 2 PM at St John American Lutheran. Rev. Belk and Rev. Floy will officiate with burial under Mauer Funeral Home. A Friday 8 PM prayer service will precede. Mrs. McDougall, born May 15 1900 in Maurice, lived in Le Mars 60 years. Survived by husband Judson, daughter Marion Kilstrom Akron three sons Marlin Winona Minn Judson Jr Lincoln Neb Donald Papillion Neb nine grandchildren two brothers Leon DeRaad Ineton and Arthur DeRaad Denver two sisters Mrs Edward Koops Denver and Mrs Weston Karr Le Mars. She was a St John’s member and part of Rachael circle.
