Iowa State Historical Building in Des Moines houses an art gallery a historical archives and a museum adjacent to the capitol. Golfers Vanquish West Sioux Team at Le Mars Club
Le Mars High School golfers defeated West Sioux 256 to 210 at Le Mars Country Club. John Attig Earns Third in South Dakota Math Contest
John Attig, a Le Mars junior, placed third in the eighth annual mathematics contest at Vermillion, competing against students from a four state area including Central and East of Sioux City and Washington high of Sioux Falls. Eleven LCHS students entered from Algebra II advanced math and geometry classes under teachers Richard Peterson Willard Hohenbauer and James Cornils.

Sophs Serving At Jr Sr Banquet At Carey Gym
Thirty six sophomores were selected to serve at the junior-senior banquet to be held at Carey Gymnasium on Friday May 17. The 18 girls and 18 boys were chosen by the junior committee on waiters and waitresses with Jan Coeppock as chairman. Des Moines visitors can view priceless paintings mosaics and statues inside the capitol. Notable pieces include Westward above the stairway costing 10000 and six large mosaic panels symbolizing defense charities the three government branches and education. The rotunda houses statues and Kenyon Cox panels worth 8000 plus war flags and Civil War memorabilia.

New High School Building Takes Shape Quickly
Much progress is being made on the new school as winter and spring cooperate. Footings and foundation walls near completion. Some brick work on the east and south sides is finished. Electrical outlets are being installed in rooms on the building’s east half.

Art and Manual Arts Exhibit Planned for Public
The annual LCHS Art and Manual Arts exhibit is being planned with dates to be announced. Students from seventh through twelfth grade will present oil painting pencil and ink drawings mosaic sculpture pottery leathercraft and student projects from Mr. Edward Downing's manual arts class include bed headboards book cases lamps coffee tables gun racks cabinets and chests. Elementary art will not be shown this year and will be shown during May fetes. Patrons should watch Canine Comments for the exhibit announcement.
