Walter Walker aged 18 of Cherokee appeared before Justice of Peace Gordon Tentinger facing a minor in possession charge. He was found guilty and fined 100 dollars plus costs. The incident traces to a January 25 one car crash that killed Donald Walters and left Dale Hansen with serious injuries. A second Cherokee youth Donald Allen faced the same charge but the case was moved to juvenile court as he is 17. A beer was found near highway 75 south of Hinton. Sarah Dull of Clarke College Dubuque is visiting her parents.
The town of Remsen offers a 50 dollar reward for information leading to the arrest of vandals who damaged evergreen trees along the main street boulevard. Mayor Clifford Dorr voiced concern over rising vandalism as residents seek to identify the culprit.
Work began Friday on a new Remsen roller mill on a two acre site across Nothem Ave from the existing plant. Proprios Dean Parks and Jerry Augustine expect completion by June 1 with wood and steel buildings. The complex includes a 25 by 25 foot work area, 25 by 16 foot driveway, 50 foot scale, and 40 by 60 foot office and warehouse. It will feature complete feed grinding mixing and rolling facilities and grain handling.
