County boards urged to merge school systems in special election
A proposed method to unify county school systems across adjacent counties was outlined. Section 273.23 requires a petition signed by at least ten percent of gubernatorial voters in each county to trigger a special election. Mrs McCormick to discuss other methods in her next article.

Life's end James Irwin 88 rites at Pierson
James W. Irwin age 88 of Pierson died Wednesday at a Sioux Valley hospital in Cherokee. Funeral services were held at 1 30 p m Friday at Pierson Methodist church with burial in Greenwood cemetery Pierson. He was born February 25 1880 in Ireland and married Ella Heaton October 28 1914 in Tilden township Cherokee county. He farmed in Cherokee county then moved to Pierson in 1958. Survivors include his wife a son James L. of Pierson two daughters Mrs James J McEvoy and Mrs Francis Whitney both of Des Moines a brother Tom Pierson a sister Mrs LaVerne Snyder Pierson and five grandchildren.
