A Poweshiek county student Dale Lamb won first prize in the Iowa Association for Retarded Citizens essay contest with The Shepherds Lost Lamb. The poem portrays a young girl born with disabilities, her daily struggles, therapy, and the family's supportive efforts to help her find joy, such as swimming and choir.
First Federal Savings and Loan Assn of Sioux City filed to establish a Cherokee branch. James Lepse, senior vice president, said chances are very good. Don Hughes of Sioux Valley said the firm will protest, a routine step after Sioux Valley previously blocked Home Federal’s Cherokee bid. First Federal merged with LeMars Federal Savings and Loan April 1 and already has branches in Onawa and Orange City.
A son, John Anthony, was born May 31, 1974 at Floyd Valley hospital in LeMars to Mr. and Mrs. James Peters, rural LeMars. He weighed 7 lbs 14 oz and measured 20 inches. He has two sisters and a brother. Grandparents are Mrs. Felix Kunkel, Remsen, and Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Peters, LeMars. Great-grandmother is Mrs. Lena Kemp, Oyens.
Swimming pools open countywide and beaches near. Kristin Kehrberg daughter of Norman and Mrs Kehrberg is this week’s art winner with a pencil drawing titled Summer is here showing sun bathers and a refreshment stand at Le Mars Municipal pool. Young artists 14 and under are invited to enter a weekly contest with name age parents address and title on the drawing.
After World War I Le Mars reflects on forgotten tolls and later homecomings. Co K veterans faced loss as 14 men from the unit died in service, while celebrations and reorganizing efforts offered brief relief. Virgil Dorweiler notes a guard revival attempt fading into memory.
Wasmer post, American Legion in Le Mars, will hold a Wednesday meeting at 8 p.m. at the clubrooms to elect officers. Delegates will be named for the Iowa department convention in Des Moines July 13-14. The post plans a July 10 Chamber of Commerce coffee. The trustees' building plans were halted due to indebtedness. Dues become delinquent June 30.
Sioux City chiropractor Dr Gerald A Chicoine is certified to practice acupuncture after completing 100 hours of study at the Columbia Institute of Chiropractic in New York City. Medical professionals from across the nation attend the institute.
John Calsbeek of Le Mars received an associate of arts degree with honors from Sioux Empire College Hawarden. The outdoor ceremony took place on the college campus in the evening of June 5.
Gerald Lehner a 1974 Gehlen high school graduate receives a Chapter AO national T.T.T. society scholarship. He will study electronic communications at Western Iowa Tech this fall. He is the son of Mr and Mrs Verl Lehner of Le Mars.
Sioux City group Sioux Viking lodge hosts a social meeting with folk dancing and music led by Clara Luther at 8 p.m. June 15 at the 1.0.C.F. hall 1224 18th St. Visitors welcome. bring games for those not dancing.

June 18 features Christian Women's Club dinner and guest night at 6 30 p.m. Terrace lounge Westmar with Time as program theme for men. Also June 18 Newcomers Club coffee at Cleveland Park 9 30 a.m. June 25 Christian Women's Club executive meeting at the home of Mrs. Don Fedders 129 1st St N W at 9 30 a.m.
