Plymouth County Auditor Claire Steele says there is no pay mixup for the county board of supervisors. He notes salaries are $17.50 per day for session and committee work and mileage is 10 cents a mile. A state code misprint caused confusion about approved pay, with the legislature bill showing $31.50 daily raise but the code stating $17.50 per day and $14 non mileage. The state assembly may legalize and clarify salaries and mileage for all counties, especially those under 40 000 population.

DES MOINES IDPA Liquor sales at state stores are five percent ahead of last year. Homer Adcock, chairman of the liquor commission, says ten months ended April 3 totaled 48.2 million dollars, up 2.4 million from the same period a year ago. Western Iowa up 1.8 percent, eastern Iowa up 0.1 percent, interior stores up 5.3 percent. County road use tax allocation 40 percent to rural roads, cities 13 percent. Park Rinard of the League of Iowa Municipalities notes city residents pay most of the road tax.
Residents receive per capita refunds of 9.21 for town and 62.91 for rural areas as legislation aims to raise cities road share from 13 to 15 percent. Iowa welfare reports May public assistance costs at 65,578,229 with increases led by medical costs and elder care. Expenditures detail old age, aid to dependent children, blind, disabled, and medical aid figures. Atomic Energy Commission bids accepted for a 1 million plant to be built in 1969 with Farmbest Denison and Council of Carroll among low bidders.
Funeral services for Thomas Ruble 57 of Aurora Illinois formerly Le Mars are scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday at St John American Lutheran church with Rev L L Belk officiating. Burial follows at Resthaven Memory Gardens. Maytor funeral home in charge. A prayer service is set for 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Ruble born January 3 1910 in rural Le Mars. Married Mary Ludwigs January 3 1929 in Sioux City. Survived by wife Mary daughter Betty Kluver four grandchildren two brothers Robert Ruble Henry Ruble and sister Margaret Parisot. Preceded in death by parents a daughter Delores in 1966 and an infant daughter. He was a machinist and lived in Le Mars area before moving to Aurora seven years ago. He had been ill for months and hospitalized recently. He was a member of St John church.
Junior girl scout troops 46 of Gehlen held an outdoor breakfast at Municipal park on Thursday May 25. They made buddy buns and cooked pancakes and scrambled eggs. After the meal they received badges they earned recently. The troop had toured the Winnebago Indian reservation on Saturday June 3 and visited buildings and grounds. They also visited South Sioux City for a park outing, shopped at Woolco, then had a treat at McDonald’s Drive In. Troop scribe Julie Traufler.
Plymouth County sees rapid growth in residents 65 and older now making up about one in nine. The over-65 group earns about $1,000 more per year than in 1955 and accounts for roughly $40 billion in annual consumer spending nation wide, with Plymouth retail sales from this demographic totaling about $4.67 million last year. Local firms are shifting to attract these buyers with age targeted products.
Stoos and Bahlken of Le Mars joined more than 100 auto body men from approved repair centers in Iowa at Grinnell Mutual’s fifth annual auto seminar in Grinnell. The business course was led by S. M. Licitra of Automotive Service and Body News. Robert Palmer of Grinnell Mutual supervised the session.
