Citizens are urged to engage in elections with record turnout possible this year. The piece stresses encouraging others to participate, registering to vote, and electing good men and women to public office. It argues public trust requires involvement before during and after the election.
The newly reorganized LeMars Jaycees plan a community Fourth of July fireworks display. Locals recall the Masuen family’s longtime help and urge support for revival ahead of the 1976 bicentennial plans. AAUW members from LeMars attended a regional conference at West Okoboji, joining delegates from five states.
Mark Hemmingson of LeMars receives an anonymous history award from the University of South Dakota Department of History for highest GPA and the W. M. Luebke scholarship for 1974 75. A 1972 Le Mars Community graduate, he majors in history and political science at USD.
Keith Langel of Le Mars route 3 has earned a 3.8 grade average and is named to the Benedictine College dean's list at Atchison Kansas for his freshman year. A 1973 Gehlen High School graduate he is the son of Mr and Mrs Marvin Langel.
Albert E. Null of LeMars denounces what he calls a liberal media conspiracy that distorts news and propaganda. He cites Nixon and Vietnam era coverage, laments one sided reporting, and questions media ethics and press independence in a broad critique of U.S. journalism.
Sixteen students from the Le Mars area graduate as the University of Iowa awards 2600 degrees at commencement on May 18. President Willard L. Boyd conferred degrees and gave the traditional charge. Area grads include Fayann Lucken, Gwen Dixon, Sharon Riediger, Craig Bainbridge, Randal Johnson, Gary Warnock, Delwyn Lassen, James Powell, James Bowers Jr., Monte Russell, Janet Kehrberg, Anne Knupfer, Mary Schumacher, Gary Smith, and James Hanan with various B A, B S, M A, M S, M D and D D S degrees.
A quirky collection of jokes and wry observations on public figures and daily life. It riffs on price drops, gossip, college eats, gold teeth, cigarette costs, aging waistlines, and a robin on an even day, ending with a quip about a songwriter.
Calendar notes schedule for June including Eastern Star monthly meeting at the Masonic temple at 8 p.m. On June 4 the Library board meets in the Oak Room at 7 30 p.m. June 6 features a Ladies tea day at the Country club at 2 p.m. Reservations available by calling Mrs J P Little or Mrs Fred Riter.
