1966 crop loan activity reported by county ASCS chairman

Cecil J. Kennedy, chairman of the county agricultural stabilization and conservation committee, reports April 30 totals for 1966 crop price-support loans: 240 soybean loans for 290,873 bushels and 219 corn loans for 697,512 bushels. 1965 figures for the same period were 157 soybean loans for 151,750 bushels and 227 corn loans for 608,890 bushels. Through April 30, ASCS issued 559 price-support loans on 1966 crop grains. national totals were 259,274 loans with 235 million bushels of corn, 149 million of soybeans, and 131 million of wheat. Loan availability ends for most 1966 crops, but loans may still be issued on corn, grain sorghum, and soy beans through June 30, with maturity July 31. The notice ends with condolences for Elmer Atwood.

Remsen youth earns BA at Yankton College

Leo Ahmann of Remsen received a bachelor of arts degree in sociology and speech at Yankton College's 8th commencement exercises in Yankton South Dakota on May 2. The ceremony marked the largest graduating class since World War II. Ahmann starred in sports, earning athletic letter awards in basketball all four years and baseball all four years, and was named Most Inspirational Player on the basketball team for the past two years. He is the son of Mr and Mrs Norbert Ahmann.
