Sibley editor praises 33 project support for highway 33 60 plan

Lawrence Wilde cornfield recovering after ammonia spray

LeRoy Plendl reports the Lawrence Wilde farm field near Struble is recovering from anhydrous ammonia exposure. He says the hose was cut by a knife during fertilizer application on June 27, causing ammonia to spray across about three blocks, burning the corn but no tank explosion occurred.

Plymouth county shippers sell 76 head of steers

Plymouth county shippers sold 76 head of steers on markets Tuesday. Jess Wheeler of Kingsley offered 37 head averaging 1,260 pounds at 25.50 per cwt. Elmer Bieckman of Kingsley listed 21 angus steers at Sioux City averaging 1,102 pounds and 25.50 a cwt. Stanley Anderson of Akron had 18 choice angus steers weighing about 1,112 pounds, selling at 25.75 per cwt.

Stanton EUB church holds 32nd Fourth of July picnic

Stanton EUB church members and relatives gathered on the church grounds for the 32nd annual Fourth of July family picnic with 123 registering. Don Kehrberg traveled 340 miles from West Liberty as the longest distance attendee. Bert Knapp of Merrill was the oldest at 84. The event featured a noon picnic, a program, patriotic songs, and games led by local volunteers, with attendees from Le Mars Merrill and nearby towns and a caller from Nigeria attending as a Westmar student.
