Le Mars Tanker Truck and Train Fatal Crash

Gary W. Rohlf a 35 year old former assistant vice president at Farmers Savings bank Remsen was placed on four years probation on each of three embezzlement counts. He earlier pleaded guilty and court suspended imprisonment running probation concurrently. His attorney noted partial restitution already paid and commitment to full restitution.

Re zoning approved for Sturges and Masuen areas
At a special Wednesday hearing the city council approved two zoning changes. William S. Sturges sought to rezone the lot east of the city library and the library property from residential to general business. Al Masuen requested Masuenville shift from heavy to light industry. Both had been denied by the planning commission earlier. Class C beer was granted to Randall's Super Valu and Class B licenses to Waeside Inn and American Legion club. Fire department changes at Waeside Inn were reported as met by Councilman Robert Becker.
