Postmaster J W Conway says the Le Mars post office cleared its floor of Christmas cards and packages this morning and deliveries were made. Two late trains delaying cards until Friday, but all packages to be delivered early this evening. Peak mailing on Dec 17 with year end slowdown. federal employees get an extra vacation day Friday but the post office stays open.

Car En Route to Mother's Home in Christmas Crash
A 1951 Plymouth sedan skidded on frosty pavement two miles south of Merrill and rolled into a ditch this morning scattering Christmas bundles. Driver Betty Elaine Irvine 36 of Sioux City sustained a bruised elbow. passengers Candy and Patty Vannow aged 13 and 12 escaped serious injury. The mishap was investigated by the sheriff's office.
