Overnight guests of Mrs. C. C. Hauff were Mr. Hauffs niece and her family from Addis Ababa. The Spahrs, longtime missionaries in Africa, described lectures and travel across the U.S. They plan to visit Merrill again in March before returning to Africa. Firemen fought a blaze west of Hinton destroying the Lloyd McGinty barn as temperatures stayed below zero.

Mrs Anna Brunstedt led devotions at a Christmas gathering with Mrs Ruth Turner giving the program. Flor ence Swanson Harry Schultz Fletcher West and Richard Dennler portrayed Biblical characters. Brunstedt spoke of Christmas in Norway and all joined in carols around a decorated tree. A salad lunch followed served by Verna Fagan Floyd Galven and Fred Hammond. The next meeting is planned for Wednesday January 19.

Merrill residents attended Clara Fletcher's funeral at Pleasant Valley near Adaville with about 20 relatives sharing lunch at the Fry home after burial. A daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. Allen June on November 29. Alex Pelelo entered the Veterans hospital at Sioux Falls last Monday. Mr and Mrs Harvey Herman of Johnson township bought the Nis Ahrendsen house on North 4th Street, moving in January. Mayor Melvin B. Kolker attended the Northwest Iowa Mayors' Association conclave in Sioux City last Friday. St James MACW branch meeting postponed to Thursday, Dec 27.

Election slated for NFO officers January 14 in county
Plymouth county NFO held its monthly meeting at the Eagles club Monday night. Election of officers was not held due to a bylaw change requiring January elections. The election meeting will be held Jan. 14 and the Sixth district meeting is set for Dec. 23 at Peterson. All delegates to the recent national convention must attend, and the town state convention is planned for Jan. 7 in Ames. A discussion followed reports from the Des Moines national convention.

Akron Youth Pleads Guilty on Speeding and Muffler Charges
Raymond M. Henke, 19, Akron, pleaded guilty Saturday in municipal court to speeding and paid a $10 fine with costs. He also pleaded guilty to having an improper muffling device and paid another $10 fine with costs.
