Capitol land use policy aims for public interest in development

Iowa leaders discuss a land use policy to guide future growth toward the public good, protect prime agricultural land, and foster long term environmental improvement rather than preserve the status quo. The policy would influence urban planning and ensure agency decisions align with societal objectives. Energy shortages hit jobs and hours, with layoffs at several firms and stores reducing hours. Federal food stamp integration for January is noted, and Lt Governor Neu forecasts a rainy day fund for the 1974 surplus, shaping budget and recession protection. The 1974 party conventions schedule is announced with precinct, county, district, and state dates.

Iliad ends and Le Mars future hope urged in 1877 column

The unnamed author of the Pioneer Illiad urged Le Mars residents to pursue growth and progress. He envisioned larger, permanent churches, a new county high school, a grand new main building with many professors, and better homes, while reminding readers of the Silent City on the hill as a moral reminder of judgments to come.
