Arrests in area livestock thefts and charges
Four people are linked to a spate of livestock thefts across Merrill and surrounding areas. Steve John Williams, 22, of Burbank SD, is in sheriff Ed Guntren's custody on possession of stolen property charges and faces district court judge George Davis after a Wednesday arrest at Le Mars Sales barn. A group of three Merrill juveniles were detained and later released. authorities say they confessed to stealing calves, feeder pigs, electric fences and elevator motors in the last three months, helping clear more than nine theft cases. Williams's pickup, 10 feeder pigs valued at about 350 dollars and other stolen items were recovered or seized as part of the investigation.
