5 Percent Rate for Series E and H Savings Bonds
Gordon L. Mennen of Le Mars says Series E and H bonds now carry a 5 percent rate. The rate applies to bonds sold on or after June 1, 1969 if held to maturity and to outstanding bonds beginning with the first semi annual period after June 1, 1969. EB bonds purchased since June 1 have a 5 year 10 month maturity. H bonds mature in 10 years. Freedom Shares will be removed from sale on June 30, 1970.

Car damaged when it slams into pair of frozen sand
Three autos were involved in two separate accidents last Thursday morning December 11 between 9 and 9 15 a.m. Charles Weinert 21 rural Falls City Neb headed south on Central Ave near Tenth St SE struck a 50 gallon container of frozen sand with his 1968 Ford causing front end damage valued at 250 dollars. Five minutes later on Central Ave NW Don Hughes sixteen starting to pass on the right in a 1957 Chevy driven by Ronald Sitzmann 16 601 Sixth St SE turned right from Central Ave onto Second St NW. Sitzmann s Chevy owned by Howard Litzmann sustained 100 dollars right side damage while Hughes 1959 Ford station wagon had left front fender damage totaling 150 dollars. The Ford is registered to Mildred Wagner.
