The Le Mars Daily Sentinel is published by Chan and Carter Pitts. It appears daily except Fridays Saturdays Sundays and legal holidays and is mailed as second class matter from Le Mars Iowa under federal law.

Miss Evelyn Schulz entertained members of the Tuesday club Monday evening at her home with a 7 30 dinner and visiting. The Missionary Study circle of St John Lutheran met Tuesday at the parish house for a 6 30 dinner followed by a playlet Christmas Thoughts performed by Norma Mohning and others with singing by Miss Jean Larson and Mrs Rudy Adler.
Le Mars groups held Christmas parties and luncheons Tuesday through Friday at locations including Cora's Tea Room and the Masonic Temple. Members exchanged gifts, played cards, and elected officers while aiding charitable drives for Indian missions and hospital patients.
A Christmas party and dinner for women employed at the Plymouth County courthouse featured a gift exchange. The event was held Monday evening at Club Debonair.
Members of district one of the Iowa Association of Independent Insurance Agents met Monday evening at the Club Debonair for a Christmas party. Included in the district are agents from Plymouth, Sioux, Woodbury, O'Brien and Cherokee counties. Steak dinners were served, after which the group was entertained by the Nip cords barbershop quartet of Le Mars.
The Ladies Aid of Grace Lutheran church met Thursday afternoon with hostesses Mrs. Ida Lang and Mrs. Herb Ladén. Rev. Harry E. Meyer led devotions and the lesson, then Christmas carols. Mrs. Don Peters conducted business and a silver offering was taken for Dakota Boys Ranch gifts. Coffee hour followed.
Miss Esther Merkel host at Westmar College library entertains guests during a Christmas evening. Eastview Tea After Supper features a read around the tree and sharing Christmas experiences.
Mrs William Duster entertained a circle of friends at a 1 o'clock luncheon Saturday in honor of Miss Katherine Duster who plans to leave after Christmas to spend the winter in Phoenix Arizona. The afternoon was filled with cards and visiting.
A reflection urges including Mary in Advent preparations and crib displays. It cites a boy’s question about the mother of the Holy Child and highlights Gehlin’s Advent wreath as a sign of approaching season. The message stresses preparation for two comings and invoking Holy Mary, Mother of God, in prayers.
School calendar lists events including a Sioux Center pep meeting on December 16 a faculty dinner on December 18 annual pictures on December 18 a game versus Storm Lake on December 19 and a Christmas Pageant on December 21.
Gehlen freshmen fall 44 42 to Orange City after four quarters and three overtimes. Red Witt gen Nick Hirsch lead offense while Rusty McInnis anchors defense. Gehlen also lose to Le Mars freshmen 38 25. Next game December 15 vs Salix varsity at 6 15.
On December 8 the student body placed white and yellow mums at Mary's altar to honor the Immaculate Conception. The event reflects a yearly tradition purchasing bouquets for Maury in reverent tribute.
The class of 1954 built life size figures for a Nativity Scene displayed above Gehlen’s main entrance. Mary Joseph Baby Jesus the shepherds and sheep are painted bright against straw. Senior boys set up the scene yearly and will do so again next Saturday with spotlights for day and night viewing.
The operetta program overlooked several names. Spanish dancer Katherine Ann Wiebersch was omitted along with stage crew members Richard Wolf Tom Vander Meer Don Zimmer and Tom Foxen. Ushers should include Larry Hoffman and promoters Faye Dreckman Kathy Phipps and Dianne Flynn.
In Remsen area notes, Gehlen High faces Storm Lake and Saint Mary's at the Gehlen gym with 8 p.m. game times. Father Behrens travels to Storm Lake to determine playoff pairings for the Diocesan tournament starting January 19 at Remsen auditorium.
A playful note from Sioux Center reminds students and staff that only four school days remain before the holiday break, signaling a coming pause in classes and activities.
Several unnamed makeup crew members were not credited for their work. The editor regrets the omission and hopes publishing their names will rectify the error to some degree.
Gehlen junior forward Don Dreckman scored 21 as the Jays beat Kuemper 59-50 at Carroll to move to 5-1. Allen Kennedy added 13, while Kuemper’s Cur ran led with 12. The B team won 37-34. The Jays host Sioux Center next, with games at 6:30 and 8:00.
Le Mars Gehlen High School students presented a memorial to the Geh lin Library in memory of Barbara and Jim Groetken who died in a December car accident. The gift comprises nine new books selected by the Student Advisory Board and Library Club and accepted by library officials.
