The Gehlen Young Christian Students chapter hosted the first regional meeting on Friday December 8 drawing eighty six students and ten adult leaders from four Sioux City parishes plus Remsen Granville and Cherokee. Guest speakers Fr Gerald Hartz and Miss Julie Hayley attended with David Mayrose giving the welcome. A get acquainted period followed by a discussion led by Fr Hagan and a social hour concluded the day with a hymn to Our Lady. Another YCS Day is planned for next spring.

Classes competed by home room, with top earners rewarded: 50 for the greatest percent over goal, 30 for second, and 15 or 10 for top sales in the school and home rooms. Final tallies show juniors 151 percent, sophomores 205 133 percent, sophomores 203 141 percent, freshmen 201 121 percent, freshmen 206 117 percent, seniors 61 percent. Mary Sparks led freshmen with 373 bars. Tom Schafer led seniors with 50 bars. Rose Ann Kurtzhals led juniors with 187 bars. Madonna Wells led sophomores 208 with 80 bars.
