Council Establishes a Coming Homecoming Award
Senior High Student Council held a regular session with President Bill Ansorge presiding. Scott Ross, junior high council president, attended as a guest. A homecoming parade first place prize plaque was shown and plans to engrave winners annually were discussed. Colloquium plans for Christmas vacation were reviewed and Christmas decorations were assigned to clubs. Absence limits under the constitutional provision were restated.

What Theyre Doing In The Classrooms
Miss Martha Kuebler teaches language classes through holiday projects translating Christmas songs. Latin and German classes translate carols, watch Rhine slide films, and study Christmas customs via Germany tapes and a monthly newspaper. In Benny Aknes' speech class students have completed 15 minute interpreti ve recitals on varied topics from death to love, war to turtles. Three 10 minute drama cuttings will showcase characters from plays for the unit.

Carnival funds promote club activities at annual BARK carnival
The 1962 BARK carnival receipts totaled 849.52 with 619.96 from booths and 229.56 by the BARK staff. Clubs will use funds to support activities while BARK finances the year. Royalty were Pat Luense and Ralph Goodman as king and queen with Carol Granquist and Tom Strub as prince and princess. Arrangements were led by Pat Luense and Margaret Schultz, with Harold Martin as advisor.

140 Young Musicians Concert by Cadet and Junior Bands

Jim Johnson, a senior from Daytona Beach, has returned to Le Mars High School after spending his first five years here. He majors in English and science related subjects, plays tennis and basketball, works at Le Mars Fruit and Grocery, and plans to attend college though his career path is undecided. Merrill Seventh Wins Season Opener 54 9
Merrill seventh graders under Coach Dennis Frerichs opened the season with a 54 to 9 victory over Westfield. The halftime score was 30 7, Merrill led strongly, and in the second half held Westfield to two free throws while Merrill added 24 points. Jim Strub led with 16 and Phil Strub had 14.
