LaVerne M Feusner of the Soil Conservation Service at Le Mars will address students about government careers on Wednesday in the Weidler hall game room from 9am to 4pm. Any major qualifies for government work with starting salaries from 4040 to 5985 dollars. federal agencies seek qualified people in administrative technical and professional posts nationwide including the Midwest.
Le Mars public schools join the Le Mars Flying Club to sponsor a ten event series. The program aims to boost aviation interest and student participation with demonstrations, rides, and safety talks at local venues. Organizers emphasize youth outreach and community involvement.
Dick Wolf, manager of the Sioux City airport, will lead ground school classes covering meteorology flight theory radio computers and air defense identification zones. Completion grants private license ground school credit with optional 10 additional lessons toward a commercial license. Plymouth County sees 89 families totaling 1,320 dollars averaging 124.54 per family and 35.13 per person. Aid to Blind statewide totals 129,864 dollars to 1,464 individuals averaging 88.79 each. Plymouth sees 2 recipients at 55.25 each for 110.50.
Mrs. M. E. Atkinson and county chairmen met Wednesday December 3 at the Farm Bureau building to map 1959 activities. Pete Spanjers, new Plymouth County Farm Bureau fieldman, attended and offered suggestions.
Announcement by Gordon L. Mennen of Plymouth County Iowa says owners of Series F and G bonds may apply proceeds from bonds maturing after December 1 1958 toward purchasing Series E and H bonds without the $10 000 annual limit. The rule also covers F and G bonds matured before December 1 not yet redeemed.
Craig Craig notes several new car purchases including Elmer Asseln with a Ford and Edward and Harold Van Donge each buying a Chevrolet. The town reports a school program at the Craig Independent School and a hospital tonils removal for Donald Barnhart's 77th year.
In Seney on Wednesday Rev and Mrs T M King attended a noon luncheon at the Methodist church where the group served school children. Each member contributed a 50 cent gift and a dozen cookies for Christmas boxes. Mrs Olive Taylor, 92, moved from Hawarden hospital to Panska Nursing Home. Edward Benit at Sacred Heart hospital Le Mars returned home this week. Mr and Mrs George Rose of Sioux Center hosted a porch project with builder Del Schipper.
The senior class participates in the Betty Crocker Homemaker of Tomorrow exam covering budgeting meal planning furnishings and domestic life with an essay on parental responsibilities. A top state winner receives a pin scholarships go to the top two and the state winner earns a Washington DC tour. list of participants follows.
On November 24 the Student Advisory Board gathered in the Gehlen lobby for the blessing of the Advent Wreath. Fr Behrens officiated as the wreath’s four candles symbolize the four thousand years of waiting for the Savior. The Advent Wreath’s German origin and colors purple green and white mark hope sorrow and the coming of Christ the Light.
The Jays beat Fort Dodge and Saint Edmunds Friday night to improve their form. Evelyn VanderMeer adjusts to new purple desks after her report card, amid chatter about a Monday free day and senior traditions. The team then heads to face Remsen Hawks, keeping a light mood as the one hundred one year old philosopher quips about hardships.
Gehlen High School defeats Fort Dodge St. Edmonds 64 to 33 led by Don Dreckman with 25 points and Denny Sheehan adding 22. Gehlen shot 22 of 38 from the free throw line and built a 34 14 edge by halftime while dominating boards. The Gehlen B team also beat St. Edmonds B 24 22 led by Don Neubrand with 16.
Westmar will present a Friday morning concert by the Westmar choir and orchestra. The choir of about fifty voices will be directed by Larry J. Day and wear blue gowns with white stoles. The program includes Handel Messiah parts and may feature stereophonic broadcasts on KTIV and KSCJ.
Gehlen's junior high basketball team defeated Hawarden 29 to 28 after a tense second half and overtime. Key players included Jim VanderMeer Lowell Hoffman and Tony Hames with Garber guiding the squad. Rich Kass led the second team with 8 points as Gehlen showed strong offense and defense.
The second year home ec girls work on dresses hoping for Christmas completion. The big flower design dominates this season with Mary Lou Wendl and Jean Schiltz showcasing 20s patterns. Earlier projects included pajamas and housecoats in flannel for winter use.
Events list include Dec 9 Grocken Memorial Fund presentation and basketball with Remsen. Dec 11 Freshman game vs Sanx. Dec 12 Westmar Choral Group performance with accompaniment and basketball games against Carroll and Central.

Gehlen College announces a new drill team led by Miss Lavonne Williams for halftime shows this season. The group, led by Judy Gates, features freshmen and listed members including Nancy Roddy Mary Ellen Puetz Sharon Holton Rosemary Ruhland and others with alternates Dianne Miller and Linda Shearon. The team will debut at the Storm Lake game on December 19 wearing Kelly green uniforms with white fur trim and green and gold pom poms.
Gehlen's library has added a 56 volume Chronicles of America set for broad American history reference. The science shelf gains The Illustrated Library of the Natural Sciences, an alphabetical encyclopedia of nature and science, with The 1958 Reference Shelf highlighted as a valuable asset.
