One Act Plays Earn High Marks at Gehlen

The New Convent at Gehlen hosted seven one act plays last Wednesday and Thursday. The senior play The Informer won best drama, Jacob Comes Home by the juniors took second, Infanta by the sophomores placed third. Senior cast included Nancy Masuen, Rose Ann Kurtzhals, Pat Overman, Charles Eufers, Dennis Wolf, Richard Flynn, Lloyd Kolker and Paul Hurd. director Sister M Julianna S.C.C. The cast thanks promoters Karen Freking and Mary Ann Reuther, stage managers Stuart Stopak and Tony Hames, and Richard Coplin for support. The group traveled to Carroll, Iowa for the C.Y.O contest at 3:30, receiving an excellent rating. Paul Hurd was named best actor and will receive a C.Y.D. award on Award Day, Sunday December 2. The cast is considering entering the State one-act play contest.

Pep Club Elect Officers at Gehlen High School

The Pep Club at Gehlen High School elected Dale Reichle as president, Mary Nemmers as vice president, and Mary Ann Cradit as secretary treasurer. Members must attend home games and as many away games as possible, make posters and skits, and promote school spirit and sportsmanship. The group wore white uniforms for now with future changes planned.

Attention girls the Belly Crocker Test taken by senior girls on Tuesday December 4 will determine the Homemaker of Tomorrow. The winner must master four areas including home and family management attitudes social significance and knowledge plus skills in major home living fields.

Gehlen High School forms a Math Club at members' request to deepen mathematical understanding beyond class. President Stewart Stopak leads with a goal to advance knowledge, interest, and logical thinking while exploring complex numbers, sets, topology, and plane geometry.

Christmas program at church ends with gifts to Midwest Homes

The Wesleyan Service guild wrapped up a church event with a program featuring songs and readings including There’s a Song in the Air and Our Journey A Challenge to Follow the King. Gifts of linens bedsocks and slippers and money were sent to Midwest Homes for orphans and the aged. A free will offering supported the Midwest Homes auxiliary.

Martha circle hosts EUB society meeting at Fellowship Hall

The Society of World Service Evangelical United Brethren hosted its general meeting Tuesday evening in Fellowship Hall. Dorcas circle led the program with General Chairman Miss Alicey Kruse. The theme was A Journey to the King. Scriptures were read by Mrs. John Conover and Miss Ruth Sherman. Little Town of Bethlehem was sung by Mrs. Robert Herrick and a duet by Mrs. Merle Sawyer and Mrs. Herrick.
