A Dane who came to Marcus in 1905 with a $20 gold piece celebrated his 90th birthday in November. He worked on local farms for three years before buying his own 200 acre farm and building a home. He married Margrethe Lauren in 1908. they will mark their 62nd anniversary in January. He served as a school director, was a janitor and church president, aids the Marcus fair, and remains active in gardening and family gatherings with seven children, 26 grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren.
