First place district winners advance to state December 9 at Des Moines Area Community College Ankeny. junior and senior winners go to national in Denver January 19 1987. The Iowa Freedom of Information Council will host a December 6 workshop at Drake University on the university campus starting at 9 15 a.m. Gov. Robert D Ray will speak along with legislative and government officials and Iowa legislators. A round table with lawmakers will follow the program. The council will meet December 1 at Drake to elect officers set 1978 goals and discuss strengthening the open meetings law. John McCormally will be council president for 1978 with Clarence W Wilcox as vice president. The council aims to improve news access to police records and open government, and to educate citizens. The meeting at Drake’s Olmsted Center is open to the public.
