Death of Dr W A Aitken noted as AVMA editor and vet leader
Editorial obituary recalls Dr W A Aitken of Clearwater Florida longtime editor in chief of the AVMA from 1952 to 1959 and a renowned veterina rian with roots in swine disease work. He practiced in Merrill Iowa for 21 years retired 1959 and served in World War I. Survived by widow Leah a son Robert R Brussels Belgium and daughter Mrs W J Buffington Scottsdale Arizona. He was known for teaching basic anatomy pathology and scientific English to AVMA staff and for his lively community involvement including horse shows Boy Scouts and regional agricultural events. He died September 22 1970 after a massive stroke.
