Repopulation influences hospital support. Le Mars shows a 16 percent rise since 1960, but Plymouth County remains largely static. Planners expect Le Mars to reach 10,000 by 1985, shaping hospital planning amid limited county growth and possible suburban Sioux City expansion.
Vonda Arlette Wilson and Richard Dean Crow wed at the Church of Christ in Victorville California on July 1. The ceremony was led by William R. Clark with bride’s father presenting her. A birth notice from downtown Le Mars reports Mrs. Ken Gerdes gave birth to twins at Sacred Heart hospital shortly after 8 am. The boy weighed 4 pounds 14 ounces and the girl 4 pounds 9 ounces. The father said names are not yet chosen.
GOP candidate Joe Bertroche, a Des Moines attorney and Ottumwa native active in the Iowa National Guard and Young Republicans, campaigned in Le Mars. He promotes youth protection, stronger liquor laws, anti smut, and better liaison with county attorneys. He will face incumbent Democrat Lawrence Scalise in November.
