Gehlen high school seniors Ann Hermes and Sue Weiler joined 131 high school journalists at Iowa State University for the sixth annual yearbook and photography workshop. The Aug 5 to Aug 10 session, sponsored by ISU’s journalism department, included lectures, labs in writing, layout and photography, with students living in campus residences. Scholarships came from the Le Mars Daily Sentinel.
George J. Twillman 81 of Ireton died Wednesday August 15 1973 in an Orange City nursing home. Funeral 2 p m Saturday at Dow funeral home Ireton with Rev. Arthur Anacker officiating. Burial in Pleasant Hill cemetery under Dow direction. Born June 18 1892 on a farm near Ireton he farmed until 1941 when he moved to town. Survivors include sister Mrs Martha Luschen Hawarden and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral arrangements are set for Cecil C Macklem 90 of route 1 Sioux City a former James postmaster. Services will be 1 p m Saturday at United Methodist church Hinton with Rev Ross E Winner officiating. Burial in Memorial Park cemetery under Nelson-Berger Northside funeral home direction. A prayer service is 8 Friday at the funeral home. Macklem died Wednesday August 15 1973 at Plymouth Manor care center Le Mars.
John F. Willer 76 of Moville died Tuesday at a Sioux City hospital after a short illness. Born September 14, 1896 in Moville he lived in Woodbury County all his life. Survivors include his wife Ada two sons Forrest and LaVern two daughters Beverly Bleil and Betty Hill thirteen grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Funeral services Friday at 10 a.m. at the United Methodist Church Moville with Rev. Dr. John A. Dowd officiating. Burial Arlington Cemetery Moville McCulloch Funeral Home in charge.
The OSHA office announces six day long sessions for editors reporters broadcasters and editors to learn about the act and its administration. Locations include Des Moines on Sept 13 in room 113 Federal building and Omaha on Sept 14 in room 2404 New Federal building no fee and no reservations required.
Hinton High School principal Mr Thomas Briggs and his wife Mrs Briggs with Dana and Lisa recently returned from a Europe trip visiting West Germany where their daughter Debbie and son in law Larry Mitchell stationed with the Air Force. They toured Holland Luxembourg France Spain Africa Italy and more. highlights include a 747 flight the Luxembourg national cemetery Paris landmarks the bullfight in Madrid and a Gibraltar crossing. Mrs Briggs broke a wrist in a Mini bike accident after returning.
