Westmar College names sociology instructor Baumer
Terry Baumer will join Westmar College as sociology instructor announced by academic dean Dr. John F. Courter. He earned a master's in sociology at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville in 1970 after a 1970 bachelor’s in psychology, and served as assistant instructor and graduate assistant there in 1970–72. Baumer directed the Greater Egypt drug abuse planning project in 1970, funded by the Illinois Law Enforcement Commission, with emphasis on methodology, drugs, deviance, and social psychology. He and his wife Carla plan to move to Le Mars and he begins teaching at the start of the September semester.

Granville man hurt in fatal Iowa crash near Paullina
Lila Beckman an 89 year old Iowa City woman was killed instantly in a two vehicle collision at the junction of highway 10 and 143 west of Paullina. The northbound Bechman stopped for a stop sign and pulled into the path of a feed truck driven by John Ney of Granville who was treated for shock and possible rib injuries. Iowa state troopers and O'Brien county sheriff's officials investigated the crash.
