Granville Aug 6 A family reunion picnic was held at Mr and Mrs Leo Lechtenbergs in honor of Sister Mary Cleo O.S.F. of Bancroft on her home visit. Relatives came from Remsen Ashton Alton Denver Pasadena Texas Minneapolis and Omaha. The Lechtenbergs later took Sister Mary Cleo to Bancroft. Mr and Mrs Bruce Vosburg hosted a family gathering with their three daughters sons in law and families. Guests included Mr and Mrs Bud Penning Lt and Mrs Robert L Perlot of New Jersey and Mr and Mrs Bill Hindman of Lincoln Nebraska.
Roxie owned by Mrs. Glenn Ross of Newton retires to lush Ross farm pastures after a storied show career earning over 200 ribbons. The mare balanced work on the farm with her prize winning days in the show ring.
It was reported that the Misses Sander of Waverly have leased the W H Smith building on Main Street and will open a millinery shop. Also noted were council actions to pave downtown streets with brick and local church updates and marriages in the area.

Granville Aug 5 Don Walker and family of Hoskin Neb and Ambrose Schumacher reconnected after 10 years while Ray Didier visited from Tucson. Visitors include Andy Schwarz Des Moines and Bertha Schwarz. Banns of marriage announced for Daniel Hunt and Faye Broderson and John Brzuchalski and Theeann Neuroth. Infant Troy William Meis baptized at St Joseph. Several relatives from Spencer Lincoln and Garfield visited. Keflavik serve at Iceland. Nursing diplomas awarded in Omaha. Weekend reunion hosts include Gerald McCarthy area families.
Daily Dillyes and family from Red Oak and Kay McCarthy of Sioux City visited in Remsen area. A Sunday guest list includes Mr. and Mrs. John Horan and daughter of Chicago. A Saturday family reunion at Joe Schilmoeller home honored Mr. and Mrs. Sherman Laddusaw before their move to Encino California with guests from Sioux City Shakopee McIntosh Remsen Marcus and Marcus residents. Carl Kensil of Le Mars named to Hy Club by Cargill seed division. Kensil oversees 200 Northwestern Towns sales force. Bill McKeigham reports a 13 pound cabbage grown at Estherville home in Emmet County weighing 39 inches around.
A United States senator from Illinois praised local newspapers for supporting communities. He said newspapers give free space annually, benefit towns more than any other agency, and should be viewed as an investment, not charity, with editors playing a vital civic role.
In 1923 Le Mars reports include Hinton awarding a contract to Mertes Electrical Co for a new electric system, J A Gilmer buying the More Mirage Co station from C P Jensen, Spanish American War veterans proposing a Plymouth County organization, a $150000 high school addition contract arriving in Le Mars with excavation to begin after laborers secured, and plans for next Monday evening’s meeting.
Hester Ann Pitts and Lewis Paul Newton marked their wedding anniversary with an open house at the couple’s Johnson township home. Earlier, Pitts wed Newton in a Saturday double ring ceremony at the bride’s mother Mrs C W Pitts residence, conducted by Dr Golden Thompson.
