Balloon Lift At Plymouth Fair Draws Reporters And Crowds
Des Moines Register reporter Craig Swede and crew witnessed a balloon ascent at the Plymouth county fairgrounds amid light winds. They checked wind, staged the gondola and burner, and prepared for a 6 30 p m lift while observers noted the event and local television coverage.
Balloon lift at fair sparks crowd and dream of flight
At a county fair a small society watched Craig and Dick pilot a yellow balloon. An open gondola, a 5 million BTU propane burner, and two tanks filled the air as the balloon rose. The crowd cheered, heat from the burner steamed the air, and the balloon drifted toward Ida Grove. The flight lasted under an hour and left spectators awed and wistful.

Woman driver escapes injury after car strikes horse near Stanton
Mrs Dan Heuertz 27 of rural Le Mars escaped serious harm when her 1967 Pontiac struck and killed a horse at 12 45 p m Saturday in Stanton township Plymouth County Deputy Dick Moritz said the eastbound car hit the horse at the intersection of County Road C 44 a mile east of K 49 There was about 250 damage to the car and the owner is John Kessenich.
