In 1948 Howard Henry challenged parking meters, leading a state wide drive to ban them. After failed meetings with officials, he toured the state by airplane gathering signatures, placing a measure on the ballot, and winning by a margin of 2,522 to ban meters. North Dakota remains meter free to this day.

Hawarden Man Indicted Involving Minor Case
Wayne J. Hedden aged 20 of Hawarden was indicted by the Sioux City district court after being arrested June 6 and charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor for allegedly taking a Sioux City girl to Hawarden on May 28 without her parents’ knowledge. The girl’s whereabouts were unknown to her parents until June 6. The grand jury ordered him bound over to the next Woodbury County Grand Jury session.

Carnival workers questioned after open door found at Pew's
Police Chief Jim Hoeck said seven carnival employees were questioned near Pew's Inc and a nearby motel after a car was reported there. A rear door was found open but nothing appeared to be missing. The carnival is at the Plymouth county fair midway. Local youths were shooed away from Pew's during the incident as inspectors arrived at 4am.
