Feeding immature and drought damaged corn for silage
Corn silage from drought damaged and immature corn provides about half to two thirds the nutrients of normal silage. Immature corn silage yields poor cattle gains unless supplemented with hay or corn cob meal. A note from Iowa State University entomologist Harold Gunderson warns that spraying with malathion or diazinon can kill western corn rootworm adults, enabling harvest or grazing, but advises caution and using high clearance equipment.
