Le Mars Community school board will hold a Friday night special meeting for a formal public hearing on the 1973 74 budget. Due to the Plymouth county fair next week the hearing was moved up to avoid conflicts. The Hill family foundation commits major support to expanding the independent college program over three years. Initial grants total 541,799 with 246,650 to Iowa institutions including Coe, Clarke, Drake, Luther, Central College, University of Dubuque and Wartburg. Westmar College receives 23,425 to develop materials for the bachelor of applied science degree and staff an advisory committee.
Le Mars Community superintendent Vance Stead describes trends in education including early career exploration, cluster courses, and real world exposure in ninth and tenth grade. He envisions community involvement, on the job exposure, possible year round terms, and shifts in athletics and funding toward local control with state and federal support. He emphasizes saleable skills, respect for individuals, and stronger teacher influence in shaping education ahead.
August 2 at 8 p.m. the women of the Eagles will gather at the club rooms for a meeting. All members urged to attend and participate in planned activities and discussions.
Plymouth county board of education will hold an 8 p.m. Thursday hearing on a proposed 217500 budget. The hearing occurs in the county superintendent's office moved to Le Mars Central school from the courthouse. Estimated receipts total 135509 with 70000 cash reserve and 151991 to be raised by taxation. 1972 budget was 124129 and 1973 budgeted at 143115.
