An editorial from the Sheldon Mail notes that the cheerful click of hand operated lawn mowers is nearly gone as modern rotary machines take over. The piece mocks rotaries for speed and noise, likening them to angry hornets and a machine needing a tranquilizer.
To the Editor the director decries rising crime in 1961 with 1,926,090 serious offenses, a three percent rise from 1960. Youth arrests under 18 climbed four percent, making up 43 percent of serious offenses like murder and robbery, as community action is urged.

Sweet 16 Lanes will host the Iowa State Bowling Proprietors Assn fall district workshop and junior coaching clinic on Thursday. Attendees include bowling lane proprietors, area high school superintendents and coaches. Chuck Hall will run the morning coaching clinic at 8 30 a.m. A junior bowling panel follows at 1 30 p.m. Laura Albrecht and Ollie Bently join Hall on the panel. Evening session covers senior citizen bowling led by Dean Arbuckle. Lanes are sanded refinished polished and prepared for reopening Thursday.
Mr. and Mrs. Walter H. Peters announce the engagement of their daughter Patricia Ruth to A3/C Larry Holm of Sioux City. Holm is stationed at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas. Holm a Akron high school graduate, Miss Peters a West Sioux high school graduate and former Ireton Jubilee queen. No wedding date set.
Mr and Mrs K and L Rasmus are in New London Iowa for a few days due to the illness of Mrs Sam Rasmus, mother of L Rasmus. The family travels to care for her during this time.
